River of Life

For over 20 years River of Life has been a ministry at MFMC serving those in need in Baldwin and surrounding counties. Milledgeville First Methodist Church usually hosts about 300 River of Life volunteers (200 youth, 100 adults) Wednesday through Sunday. River of Life traditionally falls the weekend after the Fourth of July. Just three days on the work site building a wheelchair ramp, painting the exterior of a home, or doing some yard work is all it takes to make a significant impact on the life of someone who just needs a little help. Youth groups from different churches across the state will arrive Wednesday evening before going out to sites Thursday morning with hammers, paintbrushes and lawn care equipment in hand. More than 25 work sites will be completed. A few rising sixth grade students will also get their feet wet participating in Little River.

Smiles, kind words, and hard work are not the only things volunteers will bring to each site however, as each homeowner will receive a Bible as a memento of the good work they have received.

Work sites are spread across Baldwin, Putnam, Wilkinson, and Hancock counties and churches in the surrounding counties will open their doors each day to feed the hungry, weary volunteers for lunch. Volunteers attend worship Wednesday through Saturday nights and River of Life wraps up the same way it does every year—with a worship service Sunday morning at the church followed by goodbyes from friends old and new.

River of Life ministry completes its mission with the support of First Methodist Church members along with support of our staff and pastor. You can get in touch with us at the bottom of this page for more information.
